About ShiatsuShiatsu is much more than just a good way to relax. Through gentle stretches and light pressure, it helps to boost the immune system and let the body heal before illness develops. Developed in Japan about 100 years ago, it is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element theory that is thousands of years old.
Shiatsu has helped people with headaches, PMS, mood swings, insomnia, muscle aches and pains, digestive disorders and many other common complaints. Because the benefits accrue over time, it is recommended that one experience a series of sessions to derive the most benefit. |
Q:What exactly is shiatsu?
A. It's a form of bodywork developed in Japan and based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM. (Acupuncture is also based on TCM). There are different styles of shiatsu, but the style I practice is gentle, involves passive stretches as well as work on specific points. Q:How is shiatsu different from massage? A. In zen shiatsu, the session is given on a comfortable mat on the floor, and the receiver remains fully clothed. No oils are used, and the emphasis is on balancing the flow of energy in the body rather than affecting specific muscles. Q: What can I expect from a shiatsu session? A. You can expect to leave feeling deeply relaxed, but also you may feel revitalized. The effects of a good shiatsu session may reveal themselves over a period of hours or even days. Q: What should I know before coming for a session? A. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and clean socks. Allow a few hours after a meal. Please refrain from wearing perfume or any strong fragrance. |
