Frequently Asked Questions About Shiatsu

Go to Shiatsu Testimonials

Q:What exactly is shiatsu?

A. It's a form of bodywork developed in Japan and based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM. (Acupuncture is also based on TCM). There are different styles of shiatsu, but the style I practice is gentle, involves passive stretches as well as work on specific points.

Q:How is shiatsu different from massage?

A. In zen shiatsu, the session is given on a comfortable mat on the floor, and the receiver remains fully clothed. No oils are used, and the emphasis is on balancing the flow of energy in the body rather than affecting specific muscles.

Q: What can I expect from a shiatsu session?

A. You can expect to leave feeling deeply relaxed, but also you may feel revitalized. The effects of a good shiatsu session may reveal themselves over a period of hours or even days.

Q: What should I know before coming for a session?

A. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and clean socks. Allow a few hours after a meal. Please refrain from wearing perfume or any strong fragrance.
